Dyslexia Support App Design
Overview
Designed a mobile application to support users with dyslexia and learning differences.
The problem
Dyslexia affects an estimated 10–15% of people worldwide and makes reading, spelling and writing harder at school, university and work. Existing tools such as text-to-speech apps, audiobooks and colored overlays are usually separate, costly and not very customizable, so users often need several apps. There was no affordable all-in-one option.
What I built
- Concept and report for LexiRead, a mobile app for children and adults with dyslexia, written for an Innovation Management course (Neuro Programmer Sdn. Bhd., UniKL MIIT).
- Planned features: dyslexia-friendly fonts, adjustable line spacing, customizable overlays, text-to-speech, speech-to-text, and points and badges to keep users practicing.
- Added progress dashboards so parents, teachers and therapists can track improvement, with multilingual support planned (Malay, English, Mandarin, Tamil).
- Covered the full business case: problem statement, innovation type and process, SWOT analysis, target customers, customer value, an estimated budget of RM 54,200 and an evaluation plan.
- Wrote the research and content sections as lead researcher; teammates handled coordination, technical planning and UI/UX design.
Result
A complete innovation proposal and design concept for LexiRead. It sets targets for a future build rather than reporting measured results: a 20–40% reading improvement within 3 months, 60% weekly retention in beta, and at least 85% user satisfaction.
